A New Sanctuary

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church

Columbia, South Carolina

Signature Beam Lifted High into Place on New Structure

The Beam that Will Support the Main Dome of the Sanctuary

March 3, 2010— Signature Beam Hoisted into Place

The massive, yellow Signature Beam, covered with signatures, prayers and dedications of the faithful at Holy Trinity, was lifted into place on the soaring steel super-structure. This critical area will support the 60-ton dome of the completed sanctuary.

Construction Update

On schedule, the LCK construction team completed excavation and construction of a new storm water drain-line. This work will prevent future heavy-rain overflows around the nearby Hellenic Center. Crews have filled in the area, so parking in the parking lot nearest the church can resume-- but with due caution around areas still marked with barrier tape and safety cones.

OUR PHOTOGRAPHER

Fr. Michael Platanis waves from atop the 17-story Bank of America building in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, overlooking the new sanctuary site. His seemingly precarious perch affords Fr. Michael a commanding view from which to photograph the work in progress below.

When all construction is complete, Fr. Michael will assemble his dozens of still photographs, documenting each phase of construction, into a time-lapse "movie", showing construction from start to finish.
